Lely Resort is one of the premiere master-planned golfing communities in Naples Florida. It's named after Cornelius van der Lely, a Dutch inventor. He bought around 25,000 acres of undeveloped land in 1972. His vision was to develop a community with more than 10,500 homes housing 20,000 people. Today these 25,000 acres span Lely Barefoot Beach, Lely Golf Estates, Lely Country Club, Treviso Bay and Lely Resort. Although the three planned golf courses were built in 1990, 1991 and 1997, the development never really took off until the Stock family took over in 2001. Their vision, energy and creative marketing helped Lely Resort bloom into one of Naples' best selling communities, winning many awards from the building industry and the public.

Today's Lely Resort sits on 2,900 acres and boasts three Championship golf courses, an award-winning club, a hotel for golfers and a wide variety of residential choices. It is bordered by Edison State College campus, the new South Regional library, Lely Elementary School and an emergency services building to the North and US 41/Tamiami Trail to the South, SR 951 to the East and St. Andrews Blvd. to the West.

Amenities

The two public courses - the Flamingo Island and the Mustang - were created by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and Lee Trevino. The 7,171 yard Flamingo course offers plenty of water challenges and sculpted fairways, lots of bunkering and tricky putting surfaces. It is visually very pleasing, the lakes and preserve areas make the most of Florida's natural beauty. The Mustang is 7,217 yards and offers wider fairways. Twelve lakes offer beautiful settings. Golf Digest rated it 4.5 stars (out of 5) and rated the Flamingo 4 stars. The Flamingo clubhouse is the starting point for both courses, offering a restaurant and lounge, pro shop and locker rooms with showers. There is a practice range and short game and putting areas. The carts feature a great Par View GPS system with helpful fairway and tee to pin information. The private Classics Course was designed by Gary Player. The course features many serene fairways and challenges at the same time. Members enjoy their own private clubhouse offering lunch and dinner. Different membership opportunities are available.

The award-winning Player's Club opened in March 2005 and has more than 1,500 members today. The new non-golf club concept turned out to be very popular. The resort-style pool is the centerpiece of the sprawling and soon to be expanded club. The clubhouse offers a restaurant, billiards and theatre room, crafts and business room on 20,000 sq.ft. The fitness center features state-of-the-art cardio and weight machines, personal trainers and an array of fitness classes, saunas, steam rooms and locker rooms. The spa offers full-service treatments, from relaxing massages to facials. The seven Har-tru courts will soon be relocated and several more added. Basket ball hoops and bocce ball are also available.

Lely Resort Real Estate

There is a wide variety of residential units in Lely Resort. Condominium resale units start in the low $100,000's, new construction starts around $180,000. Choices range from 2 bedroom, 2 baths condos with around 1,000 sq.ft. to custom estate homes with several thousand sq.ft. living area and anything in between. Stock Development's creative architectural designs include the unique Ole village. Colorful flats, casitas and townhomes with innovative floor plans cluster around a village center.
